Fossil Revolution by Douglas Palmer, Collins, 拢16.99, ISBN 0007118287 Reviewed by Roy Herbert
WHAT an unenticing title for this marvellously interesting, even exciting book. Only in recent times did it dawn on humanity that fossils were records of life on Earth. Douglas Palmer tells the astounding story of what they have revealed so far of the Earth鈥檚 age and the teeming life forms it has supported through millions of years. He tells it with dash and erudition and flecks it with humour. Prepare for shrinking mammoths, dinner inside a dinosaur and artillery ceasing fire to save a famous fossil known as The Grand Beast. The book鈥檚 enthusiasm is engaging and Fossil Revolution is bang up to date with the search for fossil DNA. Not least, its illustrations are relevant and plentiful.
