GLITZY TV show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation made forensic science sexy. Now the unsung science of epidemiology is getting the glamour treatment with the launch of a new drama called Medical Investigation.
The stars of the show, a pair of sharply-dressed scientists, 鈥渁re summoned in a heartbeat to scope out 鈥� and hopefully snuff out 鈥� outbreaks of unexplained and fearful diseases鈥�, according to NBC, the network that aired the first episode in the US last Friday.
Brian Gestring, a member of the American Association of Forensic Sciences at Pace University in New York, says the 鈥淐SI effect鈥� has bumped up student applications to his forensics course. 鈥淭hey are drawn to the glitz and the glory,鈥� he says.

Gestring expects epidemiology to get a similar boost from Medical Investigation, 鈥渦nless it really stinks鈥�.
