Information supplied by Heffers, Cambridge (fax 01223 568591), for bestsellers in popular science first published in hardback or paperback in Britain within the past year.
Search for 鈥渟cience books鈥 on Google, and up come an astounding 10,600,000 items. Many are duplicates but online book stores boast three-quarters of a million science titles. You can try before you buy with, for example, National Academy Press. And many publishers offer sample chapters online. Book sales continue: we still enjoy the physicality of the printed word, it seems, even though we can get the information for free.
