A lens designed to help visually impaired people use chip-and-PIN keypads more easily is also helping stop thieves 鈥渟houlder surfing鈥 for people鈥檚 PINs. The lens forms the lid of a cradle that holds the key pad, enlarging the view for the user directly above it, but it also distorts the view from any other angle, says inventor Neil Radford of the University of Warwick in the UK.
First the pay-as-you-go cellphone, now the computer. Microsoft and Chinese PC maker Lenovo have announced plans to sell pay-as-you-go computers in China and India. Consumers will be able to buy a Lenovo PC for about half its normal price and then pay off the remaining balance by purchasing pre-pay cards that allow them a set amount of access. They hope it will make computers more affordable.
