China鈥檚 biggest search engine, Baidu, has launched an online encyclopedia based on Wikipedia, which will rely on voluntary contributions for its entries. But Baidupedia will heavily censor its entries. Banned entries include Falun Gong and Dalai Lama. A Chinese-language version of Wikipedia was blocked by the government last year.
A car that can anticipate a side-on impact and subtly alter its body shape to absorb the force of the crash is on its way. The car, being developed by an EU-funded German consortium will use hood-mounted cameras and radar to anticipate a collision. Once it determines an impact is imminent it will activate a 鈥渟hape-memory鈥� alloy in the side door by passing an electrical current through it. This heats the alloy and makes it swell to create a stronger connection with the car鈥檚 frame.
