Paperless office? Still over the horizon

Despite early predictions that a PC on every desk would create paperless offices, printers remain a fact of electronic life

Despite early predictions that a PC on every desk would create paperless offices, printers remain a fact of electronic life. Yet many of the sheets we print, particularly from websites, are blank pages from the end of a document, with only an advert or legal small print at the bottom. Now software has been designed to reduce the number of unnecessary pages printed and make offices a little less paper-hungry.

The software, developed by GreenPrint Technologies of Portland, Oregon, deletes blank pages, or those containing only an advert, web address or legal blurb. The program is installed on a computer鈥檚 desktop and acts as a 鈥渧irtual printer鈥, creating a preview of any web pages you want to print. Unnecessary pages are removed automatically before the system passes the print data to your real printer.
