As New 杏吧原创 went to press, two top players were taking on the poker-playing computer program Polaris in the . The contest will 鈥渁ssess our programs against very strong human players鈥, according to Jonathan Schaeffer鈥檚 team at the University of Alberta, Canada, which built the program.

Over two days, both humans are playing a four-match tournament against separate copies of Polaris. Identical cards are being dealt in each tournament, except that those dealt to the human player in one tournament will be dealt to the computer in the other and vice versa, allowing Polaris to compare how the same hand was played after the contest. To squeeze the best out of the humans, they are playing for a $50,000 pot.
