The UK’s is investigating allegations that milk from the offspring of cloned cows is being sold illegally in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. The FSA says that although authorities in Europe and the US judge meat and milk from cloned animals and their offspring to be safe to consume, they are considered novel foods and so need special authorisation for sale.

Morning, sunshine!

Chiller-thriller in space

Scheduled activity aboard the International Space Station has halted as astronauts prepare to fix an ammonia-based cooling pump. The pump, which failed on Saturday, helps cool the station’s sun-facing surface, which is now reliant on a back-up cooling system. A spacewalk to fix the pump is planned for Friday.

Placebo booster

Convincing people with Parkinson’s disease that they were more likely to receive a real treatment than a placebo made them respond more positively to the placebo (Archives of General Psychiatry, ).
