DARPA seeks business model for interstellar travel

The 100 Year Starship Study is now soliciting ideas for how to make long-distance space travel practicable

WANTED: A real life starship in the next 100 years. Anyone with an idea on how to make this happen 鈥 or a religious or ethical objection 鈥 has to submit their idea for presentation at a public symposium this year.

The 100 Year Starship Study is the brainchild of the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The aim is to explore and research 鈥渁ll the issues surrounding long-duration, long-distance spaceflight鈥.

A selection of the new ideas submitted will be presented at the symposium in Orlando, Florida, in September. 鈥淲e鈥檙e hoping that ethicists, lawyers鈥 technologists and others will participate,鈥 says DARPA鈥檚 David Neyland.
