Origami could save your life. With a specialised inkjet printer and a few well-placed folds, UK technology firm Cambridge Consultants can turn a sheet of paper into a personalised diagnostic toolkit. John Pritchard, the firm鈥檚 head of diagnostics, says it could revolutionise the way we handle disease outbreaks such as the Ebola epidemic 鈥� rather than stockpiling tests, they could be printed quickly whenever a disease pops up.

And they鈥檙e off! Over 100 of the world鈥檚 best drone pilots flocked to Sacramento, California, last week to compete. With $25,000 in prize money at stake, pilots strapped cameras to their drones, donned virtual reality headsets and coaxed their craft around a series of time trials. The US Drone Nationals is the first major race meet for a sport that emerged almost entirely from YouTube highlight reels.
