the fate of his high-speed object; the entire Universe would collapse around
it before it could disappear inside a black hole.

From the object’s point of view the rest of the Universe would be streaming
past at the same speed in the opposite direction and most astronomical objects,
being undoubtedly much more massive than the object to begin with, would
become black holes first. Their additional mass would also reverse the Universe’s
expansion; because of time dilation effects it would then rapidly shrink
to nothing.

Of course, all that Jonathan might notice of this cataclysm would be
a speeding black hole ..now where did I put the Aspirin?
