This 3D map shows the main Ethiopian rift, which contains a chain of volcanoes, faults and lakes (in black). The coloured surface is an 鈥渋nterferogram鈥� derived from Envisat radar data from January 2009 to April 2010: the concentric rings (fringes) around the volcanoes Alutu, Corbetti and Bora indicate deformation, with each ring corresponding to 2.8 centimetres of motion in the satellite鈥檚 line of sight.
